The Ranch
Dixie Valley Ranch is located in Montague, California. The ranch sits in a valley off of the north shoulder of Mt Shasta in Siskiyou County. The ranch is a combination of irrigated pasture, rolling hill dry pasture, irrigated farm ground and a feedlot. The irrigated pasture consists of a fescue-based mix. The dry pasture consists of wheat grass, grazing alfalfa and native varieties. We cut some of the irrigated pasture as well as alfalfa, sorghum/sudan and grains which we dry bale and make balage. The feedlot is built around a hill with the water at the bottom and the feed at the top so that the bulls continue to move while on feed.
Herd Management
Our view point includes us researching and looking for the best possible protocol to keep our herd healthy and productive.

We set the calves in an LBS scale that is mounted on a side x side to weigh them. While the calf is in the scale, we do the following procedure:
- Nasalgen 3 pmh (intranasal) – BRD
- Calf guard (oral) – roto and corona virus
- Profusion (oral) – mineral supplement
- Tattoo – tag side
- TSU – DNA plug sample
- ID tag – put in hole made by TSU plug
- Naval Guard – spray applied
